HOLGA TOY CAMERA
Word from China hit recently as I learned that production of the Holga toy camera had ceased. The Holga toy camera with its plastic lens, less than adequate light seals and lack of electronic settings meant taking photos was a world away from digital photography. The Holga has been one of my favourite cameras to capture truly creative images. This plastic camera takes medium format film allowing the photographer to take 12 6x6 photos per roll. Getting the most out of these 12 photos took creativity and luck. But for all the difficulties it was always a surprise every single time I got back a roll of developed film.
If you're interested in getting into film photography the Holga might not be your best option but if you want a camera that gives you a surprise then the Holga is for you. Lomography are selling Holga cameras until stock runs out.
To honour the Holga, here are my favourite Holga photos I have captured in the last few years.
